7/8/2025 - SPOTLIGHT: BCMUD team members' quick action ensures continued water to residents during floods

Dear Brushy Creek MUD residents,

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to BCMUD Utilities Systems Manager Bill Carr and his team.

During the July 4 weekend, torrential rains resulted in flash flooding throughout and beyond Central Texas, including areas in Williamson County. The District’s water intake, which is situated on the banks of Lake Georgetown and guides water to the BCMUD Water Treatment Facility, experienced extreme stress, as the lake levels rose 25 feet in one day.

“Most of that happened in about 12 hours,” Carr said of the lake level increase. “Twenty-five feet is simply a crazy amount of water to rise in that amount of time.”

Carr said that as the water rose, a goose-neck trailer near the intake at a slightly higher elevation became in danger of flooding. The trailer contains essential equipment necessary for the continuing operation of the pumps that deliver all the District’s drinking water to its residents.

On Saturday, July 5, as the waters continued to rise, Carr and Utility Maintenance Supervisor Chad Scott acted quickly and moved the trailer up to higher ground, preventing what Carr said could have been catastrophic damage if the trailer and its interior components had flooded.

This swift and decisive response is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of Carr and the entire BCMUD Utilities crew. Their actions during this emergency not only protected critical equipment but also ensured that residents continued to receive safe, reliable drinking water without interruption.

We extend our sincere thanks to Bill, Chad, and the team for going above and beyond in service to our community. Their commitment clearly reflects the values of The Brushy Creek Life—resilience, responsibility, and a deep care for the well-being of our residents.
